Description

Grid connectivity studies are mandatory for utility-scale solar and wind power plants in India to demonstrate that the proposed generating station can be safely and reliably integrated with the State or Inter-State Transmission System without adversely affecting grid stability, power quality, or system security. These studies are carried out in accordance with the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) Technical Standards for Connectivity, the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) Connectivity Regulations, and the applicable Grid Code, using detailed network models provided by the concerned transmission utility (CTU/STU). The scope typically includes load flow analysis, short-circuit studies, transient and dynamic stability assessment, voltage regulation and reactive power capability verification, fault ride-through (LVRT/HVRT) compliance, harmonic analysis, protection coordination, switching overvoltage assessment where applicable, and evaluation of the plant’s impact on nearby transmission assets under normal and contingency (N-1) operating conditions. The study also verifies compliance with grid code requirements relating to frequency response, voltage control, reactive power support, power quality, and renewable energy plant controller performance, thereby ensuring that the proposed solar or wind power plant can be connected to the grid without compromising the reliability, stability, and operational security of the interconnected power system. Satcon has the resources and contacts to deliver these type of studies.
