In an Air insulated outdoor switchyard, live conductors are tied at different levels in such a way that required phase to phase, phase to earth and ground clearances are maintained as per relevant national or international standards. To elevate the conductor to the desired height, steel support structures of different height are used. The structures can be lattice type or tubular pipe type.
The lattice type structures are lower in weight but comparatively more difficult to assemble and erect at site since various parts of the structure are loosely transported.
Tubular structures, although the weight is bit higher, but easy to mount at site on the plinth since number of assembly points are much less than lattice structures.
