Transmission Towers at extra high voltage are spotted at an average span of 300-400m. Depending on the number of circuits supported on the Tower, land profile, wind zone, seismic zone, soil characteristics, phase to phase and phase to earth distances, the Towers take different shapes at different voltages and at different areas. The Towers can be made of lattice steel members or steel monopoles. Tower steel members are sized based on wind and conductor loading as per relevant standards and sag & tension calculation.
Satcon is practicing Transmission tower structural designing using staad pro software for more than a decade. Sag & Tension calculation is done by senior electrical engineer using PLS CADD software to obtain the conductor loading. Satcon's structural design engineer applies the load on transmission tower steel members in staad software after preparing a staad model of the Tower. It is important to consider broken wire condition as per Client's technical spec or relevant international standard while designing the Tower.
