In a complex electrical network, it is very important to know the amount of active and reactive power flow through different limbs of the circuit at different operating conditions of the system. The magnitude of power flow (KW, KVAR & KVA) and phase angle help to decide the rating and installation method of different electrical equipment such as switch gears, cables, transformers, bus ducts etc. The ‘Load Flow Study’ by ETAP software is performed for the same purpose of evaluating the power flow and power factor at different nodes of the system. Any electrical system is prone to fail and a fault may develop at any point of time. During fault, either very high current flows through the electrical circuit or very high voltage is generated at certain node points of the circuit. The high current generates tremendous heat in the faulted zone, which may burn the insulation unless the protection device is not operated quickly enough. High voltage generated in the faulted zone again punctures the insulation and causes earth fault. Hence identification of short circuit and earth fault currents and their impacts on the electrical circuit is a very important parameter to design an electrical system which can withstand the fault and its effect for the specified time period. A short circuit and earth fault study by ETAP helps to identify the shot circuit and earth fault current magnitude for different operating conditions of the electrical circuit.
