Gas Insulated Bus Duct Design :
Gas insulated substations are being built in many parts of the world due to its compact design, occupies much less space that outdoor AIS and demands much less maintenance. Connection between the Gas Insulated switchgear to outdoor Gantry or other outdoor equipment is done either by gas Insulated Busduct or by EHV cables. The Gas Insulated bus duct although is more expensive than cable, but has few clear advantages over cable connections - 1) No separate cable spreader room is required below the Gas Insulated Switchgear room, 2) Gas Insulated Busduct can carry more power than cables, 3) termination of Gas Insulated Switchgear is easier than termination of multiple runs of cables per phase.
Satcon being in the design of Gas Insulated substation designs since year 2004 has mastered the design of such Gas Insulated bus ducts. The Gas Insulated busducts ranges from 132kV to 400kV. For voltages 220kV and above, the bus duct is single phase encapsulated type, whereas busducts of 132kV and below are three phase type.
