Power Transformer Oil Collection Pit surrounding the Transformer foundation is extremely important for holding oil leaked from Transformer tank and also for holding oily water accumulated below the Transformer tank. This measure helps preventing the spread of fire in the switchyard since Transformer oil is flammable. A better option is to collect the leaked oil / oily water in the Oil collection pit and drain it away to a remote Burnt oil tank or Oil water separator pit. In this case the oil holding capacity in the Oil collection pit can be made 33% of the total oil volume and that of the Oil water separator pit to 120% of the Oil volume.
