Vendor drawing review of Control and Protection panels :
Control and Protection panels are the heart of any extra high voltage (EHV) substation. The interlocking between the bay equipment like Circuit breakers and Isolators takes place in the IED (Intelligent Electronic Device) called Bay Control Unit (BCU). The BCU feeds back the bay equipment status to the Substation server and HMI (Human Machine Interface) and sends open/close commands to the Switchyard equipment. The BCU is mounted in the bay Control panel.
The Substations electrical protections for each bay are mounted in the Protection panels to protect the bay equipment from abnormal electrical conditions. The electrical protections are provided by Numerical relays which communicate with the Substation server through Ethernet switches and Fiber optic patch cords. The Protection panels also houses Lock out relays and auxiliary relay to fulfil the protection and interlocking scheme of the Substation.
Review of the schematic drawings, wiring diagrams and Bill of materials of the Control and Relay panels is a highly skillful work which only a senior electrical engineer having similar experience can do. Satcon is performing such review services for the last 20 years. Satcon's range of services includes review of Control and Relay panel drawings upto 400kV.
